# What your KYC status means: Validated, Registered, On Hold or Rejected

Your KYC status decides whether a fund house accepts a new purchase. Checking it takes a minute with your PAN.

Since April 2024, the KYC registration agencies (KRAs) show every investor's KYC with one of four statuses. The status depends on how your KYC was done and whether your PAN, mobile number and email have passed the KRA's checks.

## The four statuses

| Status | What it means | Can you invest? |
|---|---|---|
| **KYC Validated** | Done with Aadhaar, and your PAN, mobile and email are verified | Yes |
| **KYC Registered** | Done with a document other than Aadhaar, and your mobile and email are verified | Yes |
| **On Hold** | Something in the record failed a check | Not until it is fixed |
| **Rejected** | The KRA did not accept the KYC | No, KYC has to be done again |

Validated and Registered both let you invest. With a Registered status, a fund house you have not invested with before may ask you to complete KYC with Aadhaar first. Doing that once moves your status to Validated.

## What On Hold and Rejected stop

Either status stops new purchases, including new SIPs, and some service requests. Your units stay in your name and keep their value. Ask the fund house what applies to your folio while the hold lasts.

## Common reasons for On Hold

- **Mobile number or email could not be verified.** Update them on a KRA's website with an OTP, or through the fund house.
- **PAN not linked to Aadhaar.** Link them on the income tax e-filing portal, then ask the KRA to update your record, or redo KYC online with Aadhaar.
- **Documents unclear, expired or not matching.** A blurred copy, an expired address proof or a name spelt differently on PAN and Aadhaar. Redo KYC online with Aadhaar, which replaces the old documents. For a name mismatch, correct PAN or Aadhaar first.

## How to check your status

1. Open the KYC status page on any KRA's website (CVL, NDML, CAMS KRA, KFintech KRA or DotEx), or on a fund house or registrar website.
2. Enter your PAN. Some sites also ask for an OTP.
3. The page shows the status and the KRA that holds your record. For On Hold, it often shows the reason too.

Make the fix through the KRA that holds your record, or through a fund house, which passes it on. The new status usually shows within a few working days. [How to complete KYC](https://discovermf.com/guides/mutual-fund-kyc) has the full steps for redoing it.

## Questions

### Does an On Hold status affect the units I already hold?

Your units stay in your name and keep their value. The hold applies to new purchases and some requests until the record is fixed.

### Do I need to move from Registered to Validated?

Not to keep investing with the fund houses you already use. A fund house you are new to may ask for KYC with Aadhaar, which changes the status to Validated.

### How long does a fix take to show?

Usually a few working days after the KRA receives the corrected details.
